Conventional credit control and debt collecting, mistakenly seen as one of the pivotal processes for municipal sustainability, is way past its sell by date. The above article only serves to show how municipalities are chasing their tails trying to remain sustainable. Worse still, the tax payer monies fed down from national government to local municipalities only help to disguise the real issue, and create further confusing noise about the heart of the matter, Credit control and debt collecting should rather be processes seeking to help identify the sustainability issues, devoid of jackboots and self righteous phone calls to 'dishonourable' consumers unable to pay their debts. Rather the service delivery paradigm needs to shift to finding the sustainable mix of service delivery technologies to best support the local populace, with the recognition that most households are indeed honourable - even if they are unfortunate,
